What is madcap central?
August 28, 2021What is madcap central?
Cloud-based, centralized solution for project hosting, build automation, task management and team collaboration – that’s what MadCap Central (MCC) is about to be.
The idea of handling all of these processes with one tool sounds great. How does it look in practice?
We decided to spend some time with MCC to see if companies that provide technical communication services like 3di could consider them as their primary tool in their daily work.
As you’d expect, the new platform was designed with Flare’s projects in mind. MCC’s integration with Flare works great.
You upload and import projects directly from Flare using the new MadCap Central window.
The entire process is quick and intuitive.
What does source control look like?
When it comes to source control, MadCap has thought of two alternatives – a single and double bond model.
In a single constraint model, you use MCC as your primary source control system.
In the double-bound model, you use a system like SVN or Git and the MCC serves as an additional repository.
It’s certainly a good idea to have this choice if you already have a source control solution and don’t want to abandon it after moving to MCC.
You perform all source control tasks, such as push and pull, with Flare.
Depending on the model you choose, you either use the new MadCap Central window, the Source Control tab, or both.
If you’ve used Source Control related Flare projects before, you’ll be able to get started quickly with MCC related projects.
